So, if anyone happens to be out somewhere, and they see a Wii Nunchuck controller (this is the add on the the wii controller, I do NOT need another controller), grab it for me and I’ll pay you back. I’d like to get it before I have family over on the 21st. The only place online to get them right now is eBay with $40 being the cheapest. They retail for $20.

Congratulations to my wonderful, beautiful, incredibly intelligent wife on the successful defense of her dissertation.

Make sure you start calling her DOCTOR!

Well, it’s finally time. In the next couple of weeks I plan on scrapping the old K62 450 that’s been acting as my router and building a new router. The question is…what OS? Currently I’m using FreeBSD, and while I’m very happy with the performance, I’d wouldn’t mind something a little easier to use. Does anyone know of any good tutorials on setting up Redhat or Ubuntu or some other flavor as a NAT enabled router?

Now before you go asking…”Why not just buy a Linksys router or something?” I’ll tell you.
There are 2 reasons.
#1 - Last time I checked there’s a limit to how many port forwarding rules and stuff that you can set up. My current router is already using more than those allow for.

#2 - By using this type of system I actually learn something in the process.

I have an old document a friend did for setting up FreeBSD 4 (which I’ll have to hack through for the current version).

All I’m asking is 1 week when everyone in my family is healthy. No runny nose. No antibiotics. No ear infection. Please? PLEASE?!

Jobsite has decided to produce March of the Kitefliers again as part of their 2006-2007 season!!! More info…

So, this afternoon I decided to reboot my router (a FreeBSD) machine. And it decided not to come back up…sorta. It actually decided that it didn’t like the network card on the external interface, or at least didn’t like using it beyond getting an IP address. So, I tried another…and another…and another…and finally found one that was just right….

But none of my machines were able to get out to the net…so after about another hours frustration I noticed that there was some error scrolling by….turns out in my troubleshooting I made a little typo…cleared that up and here I am.

Time for bed.

I was finally able to look up the actual ordinance about noise…stupid old bat should be aware of the law before she threatens someone with it.

Sec. 19-58. Excessive noise declared a public nuisance.
(b) Noise limitations. The exterior maximum sound level on any property with a building or structure, or containing outdoor or open areas, including, but not limited to, outdoor entertainment venues, shall be as follows:

a. 7:00 a.m.—10:00 pm: Sixty (60) dBA.
b. 10:00 p.m.—7:00 am: Fifty-five (55) dBA.

(c) Exemptions. The provisions of this section shall not apply to:
(8) Noise which results from the reasonable use, recreational enjoyment or maintenance of residential property located in the City of Tampa including, but not limited to, noise made by children, lawn mowers, chippers, clippers, blowers, tools, power tools and tractors;

Well, Izzy’s first HOLIDAY season was quite a success! His Christmas saw a new swing hanging from a tree at his granparents, some clothes and some toys. His Hanukkah saw more clothes and more toys. I think he was on too much overload to pick a favorite.

He’s also started clapping (or a close facsimile of it), he successfully signed for milk, and he decided NOT to share for the first time.

My HOLIDAY was quite a success as I concluded my attack on Christmas by pressuring washing on Christmas morning and successfully upsetting a neighbor. She came over and started the conversation with, “Do I have to call code enforcement?”

I can’t wait to see what happens during the annual Gonznonian New Years celebration!

Aaah, the joys of the holidays.

Merry Chrismahanukwanzakah everyone!

If you bought something, and it broke under warranty, when you took it back to the store what would you expect to happen if they no longer carried that exact model, but carried a comparable model?

I don’t get it. 2.5 years at this house. Plenty of power outages in that time. Somehow, the ones we’ve had in the last couple of weeks have fried two network cards.

The machine is on a UPS. The only thing that could’ve fried it is via the cable line. Just bizarre.
