Apple

If anyone’s interested, I’m trying to sell my
900mhz G3 ibook.
640 MB Ram
CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Airport Card
40GB
OS 10.2
Only 4 months old so it’s still covered by the original warranty.

$900.

I got the new iBook yesterday. The interesting thing about this is that yesterday afternoon Apple didn’t show it being sent yet when I called them. Oh well…there are some interesting differences. The first thing I noticed when I opened it was that the area around the trackpad is now white. Not the smooth shiny white of the outer casign, but more of a dull textured white plastic. Also, the AC adapter is now a grounded plug. Well, it can be. If you use the extension cord there’s now a grounded plug on the end. It appears they achieved this by making the small circular tab that the plug slides over and connects to, metal. Inside the groove that slides over this is also metal. The extension cord is now round, much like Belkin network cable.

Other than that I haven’t noticed anything interesting yet. I’m just glad to have it back.

Apple came through. No arguing. I finally talked to patrick and the first thing he did was suggest they replace the machine. They do “like for like”, but since the ibook 700 Mhz Combo is no longer made…and the 800MHz is not a combo…I’m getting a brand new 900Mhz iBook…

Thank you Apple and Patrick.

I called Patrick yesterday (after he called me) and gave him a 1 - 2 hour window to call me (as he requested). I said, “I’ll be home after 3:30 your time” I assumed that he worked til around 5pm PST. I never heard from him. I called at 5:30 his time and said the same time tomorrow (today that is) would be okay as well.

I feel like someone with a high-school crush waiting for the pretty girl to call…

Last chance before another letter goes out. I’ve given him my cell # (in the letter), my work number, told him a day I’d be home ALL day, told him an evening to call me…and he still calls when I’m not here. I’m starting to think he doesn’t like me.

Just htought I’d update you all on my iBook predicament. They called yesterday and left a message. I’ve since called (long distance) and left them 2 messages. The call I recieved was from Patrick in Corporate Executive Relations. No return call yet. Last call I left was 10AM EST today.

Joe, sent me a comment..
dude… all you need for extended AppleCare is a tax ID. I’m in Florida also, and its easy to get and worth it so you can buy your Apple gear as a “business”. I just extended mine, and the ID is all they needed to sell it to me.

This is true. I knew this. However, how many times has the mainboard been replaced in your machine Joe? The iBook’s on it’s 3rd mainboard (that’s 2 replacements), I shouldn’t have to spend $300 and get a Tax ID so that I can have them replace it again 3 months down the road. I got a lemon. I want it taken care of.

I sent Customer Relations and Steve Jobs a letter yesterday.

I picked up the iBook. While I was there I asked if the 1st year limited warranty would transfer if I sold the machine. They said yes. This is a good thing, as it creates an additional selling point.

I must say though, I’m a little nervous about selling what is obviously a machine with problems. There are a couple of reasons I’m nervous about this.
#1- Liability. I know there may be a problem and therefore probably should disclose it.

#2- My ebay experiences lately have been less than stellar and I’m somewhat afraid of selling on there.

#3- I might not get as much as I’d like.

Anyone who’s in an area where they can get applecare want to buy an iBook?

I called Apple’s Customer Relations. This was an interesting experience for a couple of reasons. First off, the number is really for support. As a result, the first person I spoke to tried to sell me AppleCare since I was outside my phone support window. I told them I was calling to speak with customer relations, not support. They asked why, I told them, and then transferred me.

Then I was on hold for 10 minutes. Eventually Patte answered. She was pleasant on the phone. However, she really didn’t seem to understand my frustration. She said she wanted to keep an eye on the current repair. I don’t understand this logic since the machine has never been lost in transport and Ive never had it take forever. My problem is with the fact that the mainboard has been replaced TWICE! She said apple needs to make a reasonable attempt at repair before they replace the machine. I’ve never had this kind of trouble from any other piece of euqipment.

Apparently, they feel that it’s reasonable to continually repair the machine. At least until the warranty runs out. At which point I expect them to tell me I’m screwed.

When I confronted her about this, she said that if I have the same problem they’ve previously repaired they may, (how non-committal of her), still cover it.

Whatever, anyone want to buy an iBook?

Well, I went to the apple store again today. I had the machine back for a week and a day before the nose started. The good news is that I think they’ll be repairing it at the store. The bad news is, I still need to sell the iBook and buy a new mac.
This is 3 times I’ve had to go without the machine. They’ve already replaced the mainboard twice. Tomorrow I call customer realtions and see what they propose…I’ll keep you all updated.

I got an iTrip too…but I can’t do crap with it until the iBook is back.

While we’re on the subject of Apple. I thought I’d mention that it sounds like the tech’s screwed up when they put my machine back together. When the fan kicks on it sounds like it’s hitting wires. Lucky me I get to send it in again…That’s the third time in a year. Plus I’ve had a battery replaced….maybe it’s time to switch to linux…
