This past Sunday was Father’s Day. As a result the media was flooded with articles about how Dad’s role in the parenting process is changing and how there are so many more stay at home dads now. There are other recent articles about Gen-X Dads.
What I want to know is…Where are they? No offense to all my friends (most of which have no desire to have children). I can appreciate not wanting to have kids. I have to say though, I’d really like to have some other people to hang out and talk to about parenthood. The last thing I want to do is bore my friends to death with tales of dirty diapers and the irregular sleeping patterns of a newborn. These articles talk like these people are all over, but I have yet to find any. The few parents that G and I know are through the mothers and I’m not sure I’d hit it off quite as well with the dads. (Not much in common. That whole Geek vs. Jock thing)
Okay, there are two dads out there that I can hang out with. But Connecticut and Georgia aren’t around the corner.

You know, it is so odd. I do believe that life makes us adjust to our experiences w/o help, that is the whole point. You are in FL w/ no friends w/ kids, I am in NYC w/ no friends WITHOUT kids… so sad and yet so true.
You are doing a great job!

Hang in there….the Daddy’s will come. Once you get out into the wonderful world of playgroups, daycares, etc, Daddy’s will be there.
And, if your friends are like many of ours, once there is one cute baby around, you’d be surprised how many more will be popping up. Seems like babies begat babies in social circles.
You could also check out rebeldad (http://www.rebeldad.com). He’s got a long list of Daddy groups in various cities throughout the US…there may be one close to you.
