Well folks, looks like I’m taking a dive into the proverbial deep end. I’ll be stage managing Jobsite Theater’s production of Bloody Poetry by Howard Brenton. This will be interesting. I’ve no experience stage managing. In fact, the closest I’ve come is running the sound board for one of the productions.
I’m hoping that this will be the learning experience I want and that I’ll come away from it with a a better idea of what is necessary to direct. Since, what I really want to do is direct.

Well i am only 16, and have stage managed at our school theatre, this in both the divising stage and during the performance, its not as hard as it sounds. All you have to remember is that alot of people have done this play in many different ways, if something goes wrong, as long as the audience arn’t made aware of teh mistake, then most of the time they don’t realise anyway. I once missed giving a lighting cue, and that scene was completely wrong, and then when we watched the video later on, it actually looked better!! I am currently rehearsing a shortened version of Bloody Poetry for my AS Drama and Theatre Studies, and alot of the scene changes can be done with lighting, rather than actors coming on off stage. I think your best to stick with contemporary props, that the actors can move themselves during scene/lightin changes!!! I hop i have been of some help. Good Luck!!
