All I’m going to say is an accurate quote I heard in X-files once…
“All the nuts roll down to Florida”

I saw my parent’s this weekend. Mom seemes just as disturbed by the shootings as I am, even though they don’t live there either. The Michael’s store has replaced the grocery store I used to walk to. The Shoppers store (or whatever it is) is near the bowling alley and arcade I used to go to. The post office is apparently new and not the one I thought. The Mobil station is across from the grocery store (Giant) that we used to always shop at. Sigh. I can’t even begin to rant.

I was perusing the world in search of something interesting when I came across this article about some shootings from CNN. More info available at Washington Post What’s so interesting about this you ask? Well I grew up there. That post office is more than likely the post office we’d go to when my mom neeeded stamps.

The manual was emailed to everyone in the company yesterday at 5pm. Yes, you heard me right; emailed. They didn’t even use a pdf, just a good ole word document. That’s not why I’m here though, let’s talk content.

Nothing you wouldn’t expect from another company. There’s the normal leaglese mixed in that basically boils down to, “If we change this, that’s too bad for you.” Overall though it’s not bad at all. I’m actually going to get an additional vacation day each year (that’s 12 vacation days if anyone’s wondering), and an additional sick day. Overall that’s not too bad. I don’t really like the “To take vacation, employees should request sixty (60) days advance approval from their supervisors.” clause, but that’s been there and not enforced.

Overall, I don’t see anything too bad yet. I need to sit with a printed copy and read through it more carefully though.

On a slightly different although equally sour note, let’s talk about my supervisor. I hesitate to refer to him as my “boss” since he really has no decision making power regarding what I work on. What he does do, is take care of filtering higher level information (payment questions, policy information, etc.) to my boss. Herein lies the problem. He doesn’t do it very well. It’s a sad comment when I need to tell the client, “Yeah, you might want to call him and light a fire under him.” It’s even sadder when a client says, “We never did recieve an answer on the question we sent about X 3 months ago.”

Then there’s the repeating theme of “Here’s my time estimate for the requested work so you can give the client a quote”
Two months later when the client asks about it again, “Can you give me that again?”

Damn I need another job.
