Tomorrow the employee handbook comes out. Prepare to be awed by my insightful rants on poor managment practices…

UPDATE: As usual, the company I work for has made a promise and then failed to keep it. No employee handbook. Although we were told it goes into effect tomorrow, so remember…ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Can someone explain to me how an employer can be sued if a group of employees find out another employee was arrested for posession of marijuana? Sure the group of employees were laughing at the mug shot online. Sure the group of employees think the person is an incompetent bufoon that should have been fired a year ago. But, the group of employees did not harass the person. Somehow the person found out that other people knew and went to the boss. Now the boss is afraid of being sued.

What’s especially interesting about this is that when complaints were made regarding this same person’s inappropriate workplace conversations no action was taken. He didn’t seem too afraid of a sexual harrasment lawsuit then. What’s the definition of a “hostile workplace”? Personally I think having your boss threaten to fire you if you miss an impossible deadline creates a hostile work environment.

I was influenced in this by FARK. However I will not have a boobies section. (That should drive some traffic eh?) I’m hoping to add a blogdex feed sometime soon as well. Also some graphics for various categories, etc. We’ll see how it goes.

Okay. Not that anyone noticed, but we were down for a little while there. These are the things that you risk when you host it yourself. So anyhow, the cable modem was down most of saturday, sunday and today. They’ll be out Wednesday to take a look but I’m not expecting much.

There you have it. The reason I couldn’t be found.

I spent most of my day on Saturday sifting through various job sites looking for a job. “But oh fearless leader of Gonzonia, don’t you have a job?” Yes my loyal subjects, I have a job and it sucks. I know, I know, everyone’s job sucks. However, I live in Florida. That means that my boss has the right to abuse his employees in whatever way he sees fit. If we don’t like it, we have the “right to work” somewhere else. As a result, that’s what I’m trying to do. The problem is, everyone wants either more than I can offer, or to pay less than I can accept.

Every morning here at “The Corporation” we have a developlers meeting. One purpose of this meeting is to inform all the developers of any hot items and new procedures. One of the new procedures is that if you need a database created, or something changed in the database, get the DBA to do it.

The other purpose of the meeting is to give the developers a chance to point out any issues they may have. This morning, that new policy sparked a heated debate in which two people began yelling back and forth. It was getting pretty heated and looked like someone was going to jump across the room and make a physical attack. That’s about when it was pointed out to them that they were actually agreeing with each other. They just weren’t listening!

Let me tell you, there’s nothing like a good dose of tension and frustration to start your morning right! Anyone out there hiring?
